The Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Rural Transport Partnership RTP was launched in April 2000 and is part of the Governments scheme to develop transport in rural areas. The RTP is administered by the Countryside Agency and a multiagency steering group including Buckinghamshire Community Action, Buckinghamshire County Council, Milton Keynes Council, Buckinghamshire Lifelong Learning Partnership, Aylesbury Vale District Council, Chiltern District Council, South Bucks District Council and Wycombe District Council. Purpose The aim of the Rural Transport Partnership is to enhance rural transport services, to reduce social exclusion and to secure longterm improvement in the accessibility of jobs, services and leisure activities to people living in rural areas, without increasing the use of the private car. The Partnership is an exciting initiative featuring the potential benefits of countybased working whilst still maintaining a local focus. The aims and objectives include: to promote social inclusion in rural Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes to address those needs by helping rural communities access employment, retail facilities, health and care facilities, education and training, leisure and social activities, and information and advice services to develop community involvement and participation in public and community transport services to raise the profile of public and community transport, cycling and walking to encourage the use of existing public and community transport to develop sustainable innovative local solutions to limited or nonexistent public transport to increase access to the information available in rural areas about both public and community transport to improve the quality and availability of information to encourage alternative transport solutions to reduce use of car The first stage was completed when an Action Plan was submitted to the Countryside Agency for approval. Six projects have been approved and each began in one or two areas and will eventually be rolled out throughout Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
