Most tennis clubs are called Lawn Tennis Club a misnomer in itself in most cases these days, but in our case when we were established in 1977, it was with the support of the Burnham Parish Council for the encouragement and development of tennis. As a community club, a different type of name was thought appropriate. Today, BTA is a thriving and energetic allyearround club with over 100 members, nearly 50 of whom are juniors. We have three allweather courts, and two of these now have floodlights. We are affiliated to the Bucks Lawn Tennis Association Bucks LTA, we are registered under the Community Amateur Sports Club CASC scheme, we are an accredited Ariel Mini Tennis centre and most recently, in May 2008, BTA achieved Clubmark accreditation. Over half of our members have signed up with British Tennis. Tennis action ….. all ages, all stages BTA runs a number of teams which play in various Bucks LTA box leagu and other competitions. In 20078, there were: 3 Ladies’ Summer Shield teams 2 Mens Summer Shield teams 3 Ladies’ Winter Veteran teams 2 Mens Winter Veteran teams 2 Mixed Winter Veteran teams 1 Mixed Farnham Common League team Juniors play in a full range of teams and fixtures in the county and beyond, at all age levels, girls and boys. As a club, we specialise in Mini Tennis, teaching and coaching from five years of age upwards and then converting in a planned programme to normal tennis. Nigel Mann is parttime Head Coach at Burnham. In addition to competing regularly to maintain his own world over 45s Men’s ranking, Nigel directs talent ID, training and development programmes for juniors at Burnham, involving a series of groupsquad coaching sessions. Nigel also runs weekly coaching sessions for BTA’s adult team players and ‘improvers’. A number of members enjoy regular individual lessons with Nigel. There are internal box leagues and ladder competitions during the year for singles, mens, ladies’ and mixed doubles; the majority of members of all ages take part in these. BTA’s club championships are run annually during the summer months; these are either knockout or ‘round robin’ in format, and culminate in junior and adult Finals Days. In September, our open Mixed doubles tournament, the Frost Cup, is energetically contested and also provides some excellent, sociable spectator sport. Club morning and Club evening sessions, where all members mix in, take place every week for junior and adult players. Throughout the year, there are regular American Tournaments, designed to mix tennis with a social element. Over past years, members have enjoyed a variety of social and fundraising events, including the Christmas Dinner DanceDisco, Skittles Evenings, Wine Tasting, Barn Dances, Quiz Night, Auction of Promises BBQs etc. On a formal note, our AGM is held each November. This is open to all members, and provides a further opportunity for members to talk with the Committee, ask questions and make suggestions. The entire Committee is up for reelection each year, and there is a regular turnover of members. We regard ourselves as a friendly club and we welcome new members. We do not have a waiting list nor do we have a playingin policy. We do not require allwhite clothing, but you must wear shoes with nonmarking soles so as to help preserve our courts. We do require the normal levels of courtesy from all members while playing. You can download a membership application form from this site, and this details the various membership categories and annual subscriptions, payable by 1 April.
