Tilehouse is a happy and caring community school. Parents take an active part in school life and we work in partnership to achieve shared goals. It is a place where everyone values, respects, supports and helps one another in a stimulating and inspiring environment. ‘Tilehouse Combined School … provides its pupils with a good quality of education … and… pupil’s overall achievement is good’ Ofsted June 2004 A Statement of our Vision and Values Our school aims to: Create an environment where everyone feels safe, secure and happy and where there is mutual respect Provide opportunities for children and adults to actively engage in their learning and enable them to achieve their full potential Ensure access to a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum Enable children to be confident and independent learners with high selfesteem Inspire and motivate children to continue learning throughout their lives Develop children’s skills to recognise their emotions, look after their own behaviour and consider its impact on those around them Have good communication links with parents and be actively involved in the wider community How do we achieve these goals? At Tilehouse we: Value achievement across the curriculum; Monitor and assess children regularly to ensure that their needs are met; Provide homework to extend the work completed in the classroom or prepare for new areas of learning; Work in partnership with parents and the community. Partnership At Tilehouse the importance of developing strong partnerships is fully understood. First and foremost is our partnership with parents and children. By working together we ensure that children are happy and settled and make excellent progress. The completion of homework ensures that parents become actively involved in their children’s learning and strengthens the ties between home and school. All children are given homework but the amount and range increases as they move through the school. The school has a Parent Teacher Association which both strengthens social ties through the events it organises each year, and provides valuable resources which enhance the life and education of the children in the school. All parents automatically become members of the P.T.A. Parents are also encouraged to help with activities in classrooms. This is arranged with individual class teachers. Tilehouse has a strong governing body which is committed to ensuring that all children in Tilehouse receive the best possible education. The governors’ diverse skills are an asset to the school. Links with the wider school community enrich the life of the school and ensure that the facilities of Tilehouse are shared by a wide audience. Local businesses also have a powerful contribution to make both in terms of the support and expertise they can offer the school. Tilehouse enjoys good relations with local industries. The school makes every effort to consider pupils’ opinions and as a result we operate a School Council which is made up of elected pupils. Regular meetings are held between the School Council and the Headteacher to obtain feedback and listen to suggestions they may have. Our pupils take part in Circle Time which is an opportunity for them to discuss issues which are relevant to their well being at school.
