Currently plans include restoring a hot cooked meals service and providing a new dining room. Please note that the school site is subject to roundtheclock CCTV surveillance and recording. We also keep trying to improve what we do through continuous professional development of the staff. wind turbineRenewable energy Click here for a presentation. If you follow our ecocommittees tips and you could halve your energy use To help protect the environment we are using renewable energy, with a wind turbine on the school field and solar panels around the swimming pool. These exciting innovations put Carrington among the foremost alternative energy pioneers in the country. The wind turbine instantly became a village landmark. Electricity generated by the wind is used in the school. A computer system monitors all this and can display what is happening on an interactive whiteboard in the library. swimming poolSwimming pool The schools open air swimming pool is in use during the summer months for national curriculum swimming lessons. The children love having their own pool. The solar heating system provides hot water to the pool and showers. Computer roomICT suite The schools ICT information and communication technology suite was totally renewed in January 2007 and relocated on the ground floor so that it is accessible to everyone. Click here to see a video. We also have more personal computers and interactive whiteboards in every classroom. ICT is already well integrated into school life but we have plans for a wider virtual learning environment. school libraryLibrary Our library was refurbished completely in 2005 with new lights, furniture and decor. It now provides an even more attractive space, which is open to the children for their private research as well as to change books. The children also have their own sessions in the bigger village library, which shares the same site as our school. sports day on playing fieldPlaying field As well as an asphalt playground we have a good sized playing field, screened from the road by a high hedge. This is used on a routine basis for our sports activities, including afterschool football and lacrosse clubs. And it is the venue for the annual summer sports day, which always attracts an enthusiastic crowd. The school holds the Activemark, which recognises the commitment to providing physical activities and school sport. Design and technology roomDesign and technology room This is used for cookery, art and craft lessons and other creative activities. At other times it provides a quiet space for onetoone teaching and learning. Music room The thriving music department is run by a specialist teacher. concert in the main hallChildren can learn a variety of instruments including recorder, piano, oboe, violin, cello, saxophone and guitar, and achieve high standards. There is a school orchestra and the annual music and drama production is a sellout. The picture shows visiting musicians from High Wycombe Music Centre, performing in the main school hall. Social Communication Difficulties Department The high regard in which the school is held by the local authority led, in the mid90s, to our being asked to host this special unit with places for six children, each holding a statement of educational needs. The department serves a large area, covering Wycombe and South Buckinghamshire. It is headed by a specialist teacher supported by fulltime specialist teaching assistants and a parttime speech therapist. Children have their own programmes of work but can sometimes integrate with the children in the mainstream school. painting of snake in playgroundParent Teacher Association In all our endeavours we are helped by the unstinting support of the PTA which we share with the infants school. Their fundraising activities account for far more than fripperies: for instance, many of our expensive interactive whiteboards resulted from their efforts not to mention playground equipment. The PTA has » its own web pages. Governing Body meetingGovernors The head teacher and senior leadership team are supported by a busy governing body. Drawn from a range of backgrounds, the governors represent staff, parents, the community and the local education authority. » Meet the governors. Formal meetings are held regularly in the school, but the nonstaff governors are also often there on other occasions as part of the everyday life of the school. Free hit counters
