This section tells you about PAT Testing, and the way we work at KTS. There are certain procedures we follow when on a testing site, which are all part of the PAT Testing service we offer, to facilitate relations between KTS and your staff, and to make the experience of our visit as stress free as possible. As you can imagine, the nature of inspecting in service equipment means that invariably our engineers can sometimes hamper the smooth running of normal operations, simply by being on site. Communication We recommend that an email is forwarded to all staff prior to our visit, to inform them not only of our presence in the building but to advise them of the nature of our work, to include such information as a request for staff to log off their workstations for a short while. When we are on site, we follow up this by either testing vacant areas first, or if all workstations are staffed, we will wherever possible speak to each area prior to testing, to ascertain from them a good time to test. Our emphasis is to remain jovial and goodnatured with staff, whilst remembering that they are doing important jobs, and, care is taken not to disturb the working environment, although we do pay attention at all times to good manners, clean appearance, and sensitivity to the working environment. PAT Equipment The Megger PAT4 DVF is an uptotheminute, microprocessorcontrolled piece of test equipment. Information from the tester is downloaded onto our main PC to produce the PAT Certificates, and track the next date for testing, relieving you of this responsibility. Best practice An important time in PAT testing is immediately after the testing of each area. At KTS we do the following posttest checks: Switch PCs back on and wait to see that hard drive and monitor is working properly. Check mouse and keyboard engaged. Ensure that the area is as we found it. Inform staff that area has now been checked. Disconnecting power Assuming PCs are logged off, KTS will carry on and disconnect power supply for testing. If a workstation is locked, KTS will not disconnect the hard drive. We will ask an administrator or responsible member of staff to log off. If the pc is in use, we will ask whether we can log off or ask a responsible member of staff to do so. We never disconnect the power supply to IT equipment that is on a network, or in a comms area, without permission from our clients. We will ask at commencement of testing about sensitive areas, such as comms room, and if in doubt we will ask. It is common for 3 or 4 workstations to be grouped in such a way that only 1 or 2 power supplies serve the area. It is common practice for us therefore to disconnect all these at once, for ease of testing, and to reduce disruption for staff. Stickers We will apply one heavy duty polyester sticker, showing an asset number and passfail notice, including the date when retesting is due. This is placed discreetly but in view. Quality Part of our commitment to our client is to ensure that we are thorough. Cables and appliances that cannot be reached or examined for whatever reason will not be passed. We will immediately explain to the relevant person that we cannot test a certain appliance, and discuss a solution. We are sure that you will find this professional approach and thoroughness refreshing, as we do strive to exceed expectations wherever possible. Sadly in this industry we are always coming across engineers who are not carrying out proper visual examinations and doing the job too quickly. This is robbing you, the client, of the proper service you deserve.
