In the New Testament there are two ways the word church is used. One is for the universal church, all the people in the world who claim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. The other is to describe a group of believers who band together as a community, a local body of believers. Our purpose in researching and publishing the UK Church Directory is to help people get involved in a local church where they will feel wanted and can become actively involved in the churchs life and activities, deepening their faith and exercising their spiritual gifts. Arlie Guthrie, pastor of Community Church in the US says, God wants you to belong not just to the universal church, but to have roots in a local church that meets regularly for worship. Why? God is glorified when we join together in relationship to serve him and be a witness for him. It also produces greater maturity because God uses our relationships to make us grow. If we have no meaningful connection with other believers, were not growing.
